Is Kendal Mint Cake Vegan? YES!

January means Veganuary for many people. It’s the month people decide to give up eating animal products and try a vegan diet.

But did you know you can still enjoy Kendal Mint Cake? That’s right. Kendal Mint Cake is vegan-friendly.

What does vegan mean?

Vegans and vegetarians don’t eat meat or seafood. A vegan diet also avoids any food that originates from an animal, including all dairy products, eggs and honey.

A vegan diet also avoids food that contains byproducts of animals such as lard, whey and gelatin.

What is Veganuary?

Veganuary challenges people to eat a vegan diet for the first 31 days of the year. In 2021, more than 582,000 people registered to take part in the challenge, and it is recognised all over the world.

What are the health benefits of a vegan diet?

A vegan diet tends to be higher in fibre and lower in cholesterol, protein, calcium and salt when compared to an omnivore diet. This means there is a lower risk of heart disease if you follow a vegan diet.

Some people worry about not eating enough protein when following a vegan diet, but that doesn’t have to be an issue. Soy milk has about the same amount of protein as cow’s milk.

The main advice is to eat a wide variety of fruit and vegetables of different colours. There are plenty of health benefits of eating a large amount of fruit and veg. Following a vegan diet can be extremely beneficial health-wise.

Is a vegan diet good for the environment?

More people are choosing to become vegan to help reduce their own carbon footprint. We know that if everyone in the world reduced their meat consumption, there would be a massive reduction in the production of greenhouse gases.

Animal agriculture doesn’t just produce vast amounts of greenhouse gases. It also uses a lot of water. 70% of the planet’s accessible freshwater is used by farming. It takes 15,500 litres of water to produce 1kg of beef. In contrast, 1 kg of tomatoes uses 180 litres of water.

Reducing animal farming also saves wildlife and insects whose natural habitats are destroyed when land is cleared for animal rearing.

What can vegan’s eat?

Many people think following a vegan diet means a lack of variety. This simply isn’t true. There are plenty of delicious vegan-friendly foods, including:

  • Fruits and vegetables
  • Grains, rice, bread and pasta
  • Pulses
